Heres a lil stick-figure boy parked inside a brown wood-plank rowboat, holding a bright red polka-dot umbrella straight up. The hull runs in horizontal plank lines, kid himself drawn in loose black outline with spiky hair, smiley round face, and tiny dot eyes. Three wavy blue lines roll past beneath the hull, abit of gentle water feel under him. Red canopy carries cream-white circular dots and pops hard against the white background. Nothing fancy, just kid-friendly summer charm.

I drew the boat with proper directional stitching along the planks so the wood grain reads right on cotton. Seven colours total, six colour changes, 67 trims on the smallest hoop. Stitch count starts at 14,670 on the 2.78 width version and reaches 32,333 on the 5.3 inch wide one. Density runs around 582 stitches per inch on the umbrella fill, with the heaviest concentration on the red dome where satin stacks tight. Hoop tearaway plus polymesh underneath when youre running jersey baby tees aswell, and avoid felt because polka-dots will pucker on stretchy ground.

A customer asked me back in june to scale it down for a 6-month onesie pocket. I told her run 2.78 wide, centred along the chest panel, that way umbrella lands above the snap line. The 5.3 wide version fits toddler tees and small tote panels easy. Im happy with the seven-colour palette, stays kid-friendly with just black outline, red and cream dots, brown plank hull, blue waves, and a peach face.

Pop this onto baby onesies, toddler raincoats, summer day-care bags, kids beach towels, nursery quilts, splash-pad bibs. Run a 75/11 ballpoint on jersey, then jump up to 80/12 on duck canvas. But pull speed back near 600 stitches per minute through the red dot zone, registration drifts if you push too hard. And dont skip the bobbin tension check before that canopy zone, it stacks dense. Ive seen it pull sideways when folks rush.

Eleven sizes from 2.78 to 5.3 wide. Hoop your blank, load file. If youre stuck on anything, send a note.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Baby onesie chest panels for splash pad day tripsBaby onesie chest panels in cotton jersey hold the design at 2.78 inches, the boy lands right above the snap line nicely.
  • Toddler raincoat back yokes and pocket badgesToddler raincoat back yokes in nylon need a fusible cutaway underlay first, the umbrella fill stays crisp through the slick fabric.
  • Summer day-care tote bags for nursery kidsDay-care totes in natural duck canvas suit the 5.3 inch hoop, the boat sits centre and the polka-dots grab parent attention fast.
  • Kids beach and bath towel corner motifsBeach towel corners on terry cloth want a topping film before hooping, otherwise the wood-plank lines sink into the loop pile.
  • Nursery quilt panels and crib blanket blocksNursery quilt blocks in cream linen pair the boat panel with smaller cloud or wave blocks across the throw face nicely.
  • Splash-pad bibs and waterproof bib pocketsSplash-pad bibs in PUL or laminated cotton hold the 3 inch version, run a tearaway stabiliser and slow the machine speed.
  • Childrens hoodie back-piece prints for spring rainKids hoodie backs in cotton fleece carry the 5.3 inch version, the red umbrella reads from across the playground at school pickup.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
