Kitten in black line art, sitting up and staring at a tiny butterfly hovering just above its head. The head is tilted up, the eyes are huge - that wide kawaii stare where the pupils take up most of the eye area. Tabby stripes run across the forehead and cheeks and down the body, drawn with directional stitching lines so they read as fur texture rather than just flat marks. Its a simple idea that comes out really well in thread.

Single colour, all black. The detail is all in the stitching direction - the fur lines run different ways on the chest versus the back, the butterfly wings have radiating vein lines, the big eyes have a subtle highlight catch. Stitch count goes from 8,469 at the smallest to 21,539 at the largest across 4 sizes, and the design runs 3.01 to 7.01 inches wide with a height of 2.36 to 5.5 inches. Its wider than it is tall, which is worth noting when you're planning placement. Density sits at 559 so its not dense - a no-show mesh stabiliser on jersey is plenty.

I digitised this one after I had customers asking for something kawaii-cat that wasnt a full colour setup. Single colour keeps the thread count simple and the whole thing stitches out clean on a light tee without needing stabiliser changes between colour stops. Last spring I had a customer order a dozen of these on canvas pouches as cat rescue fundraiser gifts. She said the line art style printed well on the fundraiser flier too, which gave me a laugh.

Back with no-show mesh cutaway and hoop firmly before you start. Use a topping on knits or loose-weave fabrics. Keep your tension lightly looser on the eye fill areas to avoid puckering around those large curved sections. Trim the jump thread between the butterfly and the kittens ear before it travels across. Any questions about the file just dm me.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Cat lover tote bags and canvas pouch giftsSingle black thread means one spool loaded and no colour-change stops; fast to stitch for a run of gift bags.
  • Womens and girls t-shirts and sweatshirtsWorks well on any light or pastel coloured womens tee; the kawaii style has broad appeal for cat owners.
  • Kids bedroom hoop art and nursery wall decorMount in a 6-inch round hoop for a nursery wall display; pair with other animal designs for a gallery wall.
  • Cat rescue fundraiser gifts and event merchCompact and affordable to stitch in quantity for fundraiser gift pouches or charity sale items.
  • Pillow cases and throw cushion accentsThe 7-inch wide size fills a standard pillow case nicely without dominating the whole surface.
  • Small zipper pouches and make-up bagsThe smaller 3-inch size fits neatly on a zipper pouch or make-up bag front panel.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
