Reach any cat owner and theyll recognise this immediately. Round black kitten, barely a neck, huge white eyes just staring forward, and wrapped head to paw in a looping string of christmas lights. The cord does these big loose figure-eight loops around the whole body and you cant really tell where it starts or ends. Its the most cat thing ever.

Six colours here. The cat is all black satin fill which Wilcom laid dense to get a smooth solid look. White fills the big circular eyes with tiny dark pupils. The light cord is dark green and the bulbs are three colours: red, aqua and yellow, each one a small satin oval with a little white highlight dot. All the colours are warm thread defaults so youre not hunting for exotic bobbins.

This gets used alot on holiday cat merch. Im not suprised, theres a whole market of people who buy more christmas gifts for their cat than their family. But its also genuinely good for a festive pet shop window display or an advent calendar project. One customer needed the 5-inch run onto a grey fleece blanket for a cat shelter fundraiser and it sold out before the event even started.

Use a cutaway stabiliser on anything with stretch. The cat body is a big dense black fill and it will pull the fabric if youre not stabilised properly. Topping helps on any textured surface like fleece or terry cloth. Run the dark green cord sections at a slightly reduced speed because the directional jumps between bulbs are tight. Fabric colour matters here, pale grey or cream really lets the green cord and the coloured bulbs sing without the black body disappearing into a dark background.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Christmas sweatshirts for cat ownersCentre it on a cream or pale grey sweatshirt and the black cat with coloured lights is bold enough to read from across a room
  • Holiday tote bags for pet shopsStitch the 4-inch size on a cotton tote for a pet shop and it doubles as a seasonal shopping bag that customers keep
  • Festive cat-themed pillow coversHoop it on a white cushion cover for a cat-themed living room holiday setup that actually looks intentional
  • Advent calendar fabric pocketsSew the small size on a fabric pouch for an advent calendar pocket, kids think its great
  • Pet shelter fundraiser merchandiseA customer ran the 5-inch file on grey fleece blankets for a cat shelter sale and every single one went
  • Christmas stockings for cat-loving householdsWorks on the front panel of a knit stocking, the looping light cord fills the space nicely with all those colour changes
  • Kids christmas pyjama chest patchesThe 2.5-inch size fits perfectly on a kids christmas pyjama chest pocket and survives the wash cycle fine

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
