The phrase reads Life is is better in Flip Flops, stacked over four lines on the left in mixed scripts. Life is in a coral pink bouncy script, the next line is is small and orange, better drops underneath in coral again, in is a small orange tag and Flip Flops finishes the bottom big and round in aqua blue. To the right of the wording sits a pair of flip flops aqua soles outlined in orange with red Y straps, and a few blue water droplets dance around them.
Five threads do the work here, coral pink for the main script, deep red lives on the sandal straps, aqua blue covers the soles and bottom word, orange handles outlines and the small linker words, and a slightly cooler blue paints the water splashes. That orange edge round the soles really makes em pop on dark fabric.
I drew this for customer back in june for her summer rental shop, she sells beach kit out of a little stand near the boardwalk. She put it on cotton bucket hats and totes and the totes sold out in two weekends. Now I get messages every spring from people stocking up before memorial day and 4th of july weekend.
Hoop a quilting cotton or canvas, lay a tearaway behind it because theres long satin runs and you dont want puckering. Run the contour layer second-to-last so you can swap it for a bolder colour if youre feeling brave. Skip terry towel under this one, the loops swallow the script. Pre-press the fabric before hooping so its smooth.
