Pretty much as clean as it gets. Theres a heart shape, and inside it the word LOVE sits blocked out in uppercase letters, so what you see is red satin filling the heart except where the letters are -- the letters form negative space cut into the fill. Its that old graphic trick where the shape and the text become the same object and it works realy well at this scale in thread.

Wilcom EmbroideryStudio is what I used for the digitising here. Single colour, 1 stop, no thread changes, just a continuous run through 4 sizes. At density 436 the satin isnt trying to be stiff -- its flat, smooth, and clean on most woven fabrics without any topping needed. The smallest hoop comes in at 1.27 inches wide with 1,784 stitches, which is genuinely small and youll want a sharp 65/9 needle for that. The largest runs 3.79 inches across at 7,451 stitches, fast on any home machine.

Last february a customer sent me a photo of the small size stitched onto a white shirt collar -- two of them, one on each collar point -- and it looked suprisingly thoughtful for how fast the run took. Red thread on white cotton reads bold and graphic. Red thread on a red fabric base gives a tone-on-tone texture where the satin thread catches light differently from the weave. Pick the approach that matches your project. Use tearaway stabiliser since the stitch count is low and you wont struggle to remove it cleanly after.

Pop it on a cuff, collar, or sock top for something understated. Run the larger 3.79-inch version on a tote front or cushion panel where it can sit centred as the whole statement. Pair with a plain thread colour on a contrasting base and let the shape do the work.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Valentine's Day card gift on a small fabric squareStitch on a 3x3 inch linen square, fray the edges, attach to a card as a fabric tag -- a customer did this and said it looked handmade in the best way
  • Pocket detail on a white dress shirt or blouseUse the 1.27-inch size on a shirt pocket, tearaway stabiliser, red thread on white cotton is a clean pairing that doesnt read as overtly sentimental
  • Small patch for a collar, cuff, or sock cuff accentThe smallest size is tight enough to sit on a sock cuff or collar stay -- low stitch count means it stitches quickly and doesnt distort the fabric
  • Cotton tote bag front -- minimal typography lookCentre the 3.79-inch size on a natural canvas tote, the block lettering inside the heart reads well from a distance
  • Tone-on-tone red fabric cushion insert panelStitch onto a red velvet or red cotton cushion panel for tone-on-tone effect, the satin thread picks up light differently from the base fabric
  • Kids february craft project on feltUse on stiff craft felt with no stabiliser needed -- kids can handle the project themselves once its hooped correctly
  • Batch-stitched gift tags on stiff fabric for valentine hampersRun multiples on a strip of cream cotton, cut into rectangles, hole-punch and tie to gift bags for a quick batch production

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
