Drew up this design because the standard dandelion-with-hearts idea gets done badly so often. The version here actually puts in the work on the dandelion itself. The stem has a slight natural curve, the seed head is a proper round cluster, and the little hearts float up along a curved arc rather than just scattered randomly. The contrast between the tight black satin on the dandelion and the looser red script beside it is what gives it that hand-drawn feel.

Two colours only. Black runs first for the dandelion stem, seed head, and the smaller middle text. Red takes over for love at the top and air at the bottom in a chunky bold cursive. Wilcom EmbroideryStudio output the file at a density of 261, which is deliberately light. Its by design for a delicate piece like this. You dont want the script looking stiff or the dandelion seeds looking like blobs, and the open density means the red script has that airy hand-lettered feel when it stitches out on fine cotton.

Stitch counts are low, 6,477 on the smallest and 14,042 at the top, so its a fast stitch. One colour change, 42 trims. Great for doing a bunch of items in a run without machine time dragging out. Sizes go from 3.34 inches wide up to 7.16 inches across 5 sizes. Use a light tearaway stabiliser on woven cotton or linen. Knit fabrics need a cutaway under plus a water-soluble topping over, otherwise the fine dandelion lines sink into the texture and the script blurs. A customer ran the 5-inch hoop on cream linen last February and told me it looked like a watercolour print. Thats the best outcome you can hope for with a design like this. Dont overthink the fabric choice. Dm me if you want a version with just the dandelion element at a smaller size for a pocket placement.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Valentine's Day t-shirts and long-sleeve topsWhite or cream cotton long-sleeve at the 5-inch size; the red and black reads clean on light fabric without needing underlay
  • Linen tea towels and kitchen textilesNatural or cream linen tea towels at 4-5 inches; the low density wont stiffen the towel and the script looks almost hand-printed
  • Tote bags and canvas market bagsCanvas tote at 5-6 inches on the front panel; natural or off-white canvas makes both the black and red thread colours pop
  • Spring and Valentine themed quilt blocksThe 3.34-inch version fits a 4x4 quilt block with the design centred; single colour change makes assembly easy
  • Lightweight cotton scarves or bandanasA 3.5-inch version on a cotton bandana or lightweight scarf with tearaway; the open density keeps the fabric drape intact
  • Framed hoop art for wall decorHooped on an 8-inch wooden display frame with cream or white linen backing; the airy density looks intentional as wall art
  • Baby blankets and nursery fabric panelsThe smallest 3.34-inch version on a cotton muslin baby blanket panel using very light tearaway; soft and delicate result

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
