Tried a few versions of this concept before the layout clicked. Two ladybugs facing toward each other, the bigger one on the left with its wings cracked open and classic round black spots, and a smaller one on the right with heart-shaped spots on its shell and curly spiral antennae instead of the usual straight ones. Between them runs a dashed line flight path that arcs up and then loops into a heart shape below. The 2 bugs and the looping trail feel like they belong together without looking cluttered.

A customer asked last spring for something cute and bug-themed that wasnt just a plain red circle, and this is what I came up with. 2 colours total, red shell satin fill and black for the heads, wing lines, spots and antennae. The flight trail uses a running stitch so it reads light and airy against the fuller satin bugs. Tape a layer of wash-away behind fleece or velvet so the running stitch dots dont sink into nap.

6 sizes from 2.27 inches wide up to 6.03 inches, heights run 3 to 8 inches. Stitch count goes from 5,588 at the smallest to 19,968 at the largest. Density at 413 per square inch is open so it lays gently on lighter fabrics, no stiff board feel. Pop a medium tearaway stabiliser under cotton or linen and it comes out flat with no pull.

White, cream, light pink, mint or yellow fabric makes the red really pop. Skip red or dark orange obviously, and skip black since the outlines vanish. Tape the stabiliser and fabric both before hooping if youre doing the smaller 2 inch version, tiny bugs need a secure hoop setup. Email me if the trail stitching breaks or skips on your machine and Ill check the jump stitch settings right away.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
