I made this one originally for a valentines day tote and realised about halfway through digitising it that the antennae should be hearts. Best decision honestly, thats what makes it a valentines ladybug instead of just a ladybug. Seven colours, nine sizes, 3.5 up to 7.5 inches wide. It runs from 1,016 stitches at the small end to 33,075 at full size.
Density is 91, which is nice and solid without the wings going stiff. I digitised it in Wilcom with directional satin fill on the wing sections so the red has a slight sheen to it rather than a flat matte. The blush pink heart tips on the antennae are tiny satin columns, use a good cutaway stabiliser because those small shapes can pull on knit fabrics. On woven cotton a medium tearaway is fine, the shape is compact and doesnt distort. Seven thread changes total, gonna take a few minutes to set up but the result is worth it.
One customer ordered this for kids valentines day classroom gifts, she stitched the 3.5-inch size onto little canvas bags in bulk. She said the kids went kinda crazy for the heart antennae, those little details really land with younger kids. Stitch on white, cream, or light pink fabric for the red to pop cleanly. Add topping on fleece so the polka dot outlines dont sink.
Keep the bobbin tension just right on the white eye highlights, theres only a couple millimetres of satin there and if tension is off, the white pulls to the back. Iron cutaway flat on kids items before gifting, the stabiliser edge can scratch sensitive skin.
