The cauldron is one of those halloween icons that I really wanted to get right, and this version took me a while to digitise properly. Ten colours, 21,107 stitches, and a density of 314 packed into a 2.98 by 3.5-inch footprint, so theres a lot happening in a relatively small space. The cauldron body is deep black satin with good coverage, and the bubbling potion colours are the stars, greens and purples that have their own directional fills digitised in Wilcom so they catch light at different angles.
Drop polymesh under this one, full stop. The stitch density in the cauldron base and the potion-overflow fills is high enough that tearaway wont keep everything flat, Ive had it pop on a test run and the results werent pretty. Hoop on stable woven cotton or denim for best results. Skip very thick materials like heavy canvas or upholstery fabric, at under 3 inches wide the design detail gets crushed by a thick pile. A 75/11 needle works through the majority of the design but bump up to a 90/14 if you hear any skipping on the densest black cauldron sections.
I get a lot of messages about this one around halloween, people digitising it for a bunch of matching aprons or kitchen towels for themed dinner parties. One customer wrote me last week saying she customised the potion colour to pink and orange for a non-traditional holiday table setting, I thought that was a brilliant idea honestly. And it works because the cauldron shape reads as festive even when the colours arent the classic halloween green.
Stitch it left chest on a black sweatshirt, centred on an apron bib, or as a standalone patch. The portrait format means it works well anywhere you have more vertical than horizontal space to fill. Knowing your stabiliser choice before you start will save you having to re-hoop halfway through.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
