The whale cuts through the frame on a diagonal. Tail flukes up in the top left, head pointing right, body arcing clean through the middle of a circular aqua field. The belly runs cobalt blue on top with yellow stripes marking the underside just like a real humpback, and those yellow lines are what makes it look specific rather than generic. Dark seaweed silhouettes frame the bottom and sides in near-black, heavy tatami fills that create a deep shadow ring around the lighter whale body.

Six colours, 5 colour changes. Aqua teal fills the water circle, cobalt blue covers the upper whale body, yellow runs the belly stripe detail, white sits on the tiny highlight touches, and near-black handles the seaweed mass with hard outlines in true black. Smallest size is 3.03 by 3.51 inches at 31k stitches. Biggest is 6.49 by 7.51 inches at 80k. That density of 1659 is high, so suprisingly the seaweed sections are the heavy hitters, not the whale body itself.

My sister volunteers at a marine sanctuary in july and she asked me to make something for their tote bag fundraiser. I made this one for her. They sold out their first batch in 3 days which honestly wasnt what I expected, people really respond to this design. Since then Ive had orders from coastal gift shops, surf schools and oceanography departments using it on all sorts of merchandise.

Best fabric is cream cotton canvas or white jersey. The aqua circle pops against neutral or pale grounds and the yellow belly detail reads on both light and dark fabric. Avoid oatmeal or tan backgrounds because that yellow accent will blend right in. Use a topping film on terry or waffle knit so the seaweed fill doesnt sink into the loops. Firm cutaway is non-negotiable here, 80k stitches on the big size needs a stable base or the circular frame will distort.

Hoop it centred on a tote or t-shirt. The circular composition suits a round placement rather than the usual rectangular chest position. Its perfect on a 10-inch wall hoop in a coastal home and honestly its one of those designs that looks intentional wherever you place it.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Marine sanctuary fundraiser tote bagsStitch the 6.5-inch on a cream cotton canvas tote for a marine sanctuary fundraiser and it sells itself on the shop table.
  • Coastal gift shop branded merchandisePop the medium size on a white jersey tee for a coastal gift shop and the aqua circle looks like a printed graphic.
  • Surf school student hoodie chest piecesEmbroider on a navy hoodie chest for a surf school and the yellow belly stripe reads sharp against the dark base fabric.
  • Ocean nursery wall hoop artHoop the smallest 3.5-inch in a 5-inch wooden frame for an ocean-themed nursery and hang it above the cot.
  • Beach holiday canvas tote bagsUse the 4.5-inch on a natural canvas beach tote and pair with rope handles for a complete coastal gift set.
  • Oceanography or marine biology giftsSew the large version on a white lab coat or cotton tote as a gift for a marine biology student or coastal researcher.
  • Sea-themed kids room cushion coversEmbroider on a cream linen cushion for a coastal home or beach house sitting room and the circular frame suits square cushions.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
