Sketched out a maple leaf in pure outline at 5 sizes and its exactly what you get here. One continuous golden amber running stitch traces the whole perimeter, every pointed lobe, every little notch between them. No fill, no shading, just clean thread on fabric. Then five or six vein lines branch off the central stem and radiate toward the outer edge the way a real leaf does, not in a perfectly symmetrical geometry class way but in that slightly irregular, slightly lopsided way that real autumn leaves grow.

Its a single colour design so theres literally one thread load. Density sits at 250 stitches per square inch which is super light, and the stitch count tops out at 11,455 on the biggest size. And because its an outline you can put any thread colour in and the whole vibe changes instantly. Rust orange for classic fall, cream on tan linen for a muted boho look, dark olive green on white for something more modern. Im always suprised how many customers order this one in non-autumn colourways just because the outline shape reads well year-round.

Smallest size is 2.81 by 3.02 inches, biggest stretches to 6.53 by 7.02, so you can scale from a small patch pocket detail up to a centrepiece on a cushion cover. A customer last October stitched the large size onto a set of natural cotton napkins for a Thanksgiving table and sent me photos, the whole spread looked like something from a proper homeware shoot. Use a medium cutaway stabiliser and hoop the fabric taut so the outline doesnt waver on the corners.

So this one works on tote bags, tea towels, sweatshirts, autumn wreaths made on canvas, or plain white pillowcases you want to dress up for the season. Avoid fluffy fleece or heavy knit, the fine outline disappears into texture. Pick woven cotton, linen or denim for the cleanest result, the running stitch outline really pops on a tight weave.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Autumn-themed cotton napkins for a Thanksgiving table spreadStitch the 6-inch version onto natural cotton napkins in rust amber thread for a Thanksgiving table that looks genuinely put together
  • Tote bag front panel with seasonal fall colouringPut the medium size on a natural canvas tote in classic amber or try olive green thread for something that reads less obviously seasonal
  • Sweatshirt chest detail for an October market stallRun the large version across the chest of a plain sweatshirt for a simple autumn market look that doesnt try too hard
  • Tea towels for a fall kitchen refreshStitch the small size onto a white linen tea towel in warm amber, hangs nicely on an oven door all through fall
  • Canvas hoop art as simple wall decorHoop the medium onto plain cotton canvas, frame it, done. One-colour outline art looks surprisingly good on a gallery wall
  • Denim jacket back patch in rust or olive threadThe large size fills the back of a denim jacket nicely in dark thread, customers who go cream thread on dark denim seem genuinely happy with the contrast
  • Linen bread bag with a harvest themeStitch on a natural linen bread bag for a simple farmers-market-style gift that feels handmade without looking sloppy
  • Seasonal pillow cover centrepieceCentre the biggest size on an off-white cushion cover and pair it with some rust throw pillows for a proper autumn sofa moment

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
