Christmas tree shape that flares into a mermaid tail at the base, the tree body filling with a scale-like texture pattern and the fin lobes fanning out underneath where the trunk would usually be. Two colours, teal and white, keeping the whole thing clean and graphic. Its a concept design rather than a detailed illustration, the magic is in the silhouette recognisability: you see christmas tree, then you see mermaid, and the brain does a little double take.

Five sizes from 3.49 inches wide up to 7.5 inches, with stitch counts going from 9,747 to 27,470. Only 2 colour changes in the whole run which means its genuinely fast to stitch even at the largest size. Wilcom handled the scale texture fill with proper density so it reads clearly rather than blurring into a flat patch. The teal works best on white cotton but Ive also seen it done in white thread on a teal base fabric and that version looks brilliant too.

My niece wanted a christmas sweatshirt that was ocean themed because she absolutely wont do regular christmas. So I drew this up and she had it stitched on a white cotton sweatshirt in teal thread and wore it every single day of december. She got asked about it three times at school and each time she acted like it was no big deal, which is exactly what you want from a kid. Now I get requests for it every november.

Stitch on white or cream cotton or jersey for a clean teal pop. Use the 7-inch version on the back of a light denim jacket for a bold full-back piece. Skip dark teal or turquoise backing because the teal thread disappears. Use a tearaway stabiliser for the lighter sizes and cutaway for anything above 5 inches given the stitch density increase. Hoop snug and go slow on the scale fill sections to keep the pattern uniform. Pop the 4-inch version on a white canvas bag as a christmas gift for anyone who hates traditional holiday decor.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
