This is a chibi-style mermaid sitting on a rock with waves splashing around her. The hair is really long and flowing, golden-blonde with warm highlights, and the tail is that kind of teal-green with individual scale satin patches that really really catch the light when the thread sheen hits them. Big manga eyes, a pink bow bikini top, and the wave splashes curl outward on both sides of the rock like she just landed there.

Twenty colours sounds like alot but the digitising in Wilcom EmbroideryStudio kept everything organised. Wilcom EmbroideryStudio mapped each colour zone cleanly so the transitions between the skin tones, hair highlights, tail scales, and water splashes dont bleed into each other. The density sits at 742, which is kinda on the lighter side for a complex design, and that was an intentional choice to keep the finished piece soft enough for childrens clothing without making the fabric board-stiff.

Sizes run from 3.71 inches wide up to 6.18 inches, 4 options total. Stitch count goes from 19,936 to 34,394. The wave splash areas use satin in a curved directional pattern so the water actually looks like its moving. You gonna want a cutaway stabiliser for this one rather than tearaway, the design has 185 trims and you need the backing to stay anchored throughout.

One customer wanted this on a toddler swim coverup in cotton terry and asked me about stabiliser choices. On terry or towelling you really do need a water-soluble topping over the design area, otherwise the loops swallow the fine scale details. On a standard cotton quilting fabric or a light canvas it stitches out cleanly without any special prep beyond the cutaway.

Best on kids tees, swim bags, beach totes, onesies, toddler jackets, or nursery cushions. Use a white or pale aqua fabric and the 20-colour palette pops without customising anything. Pair with a thin tearaway on the back of the garment for a clean inside finish if youre gifting it.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Kids cotton tee chest or back panelThe 3.71-inch size fits a toddler tee chest area with cutaway stabiliser and a water-soluble topping on pique fabrics
  • Toddler hoodie or zip-up jacket frontOn a zip-up hoodie the 5-inch size centres well on the front panel with medium-weight cutaway backing
  • Beach tote or swim bag front panelA beach tote in canvas or duck cloth takes the 6.18-inch size nicely on a flat front panel
  • Baby onesie with a hooped cotton baseBaby onesies in ribbed cotton need a cutaway underlay and topping to keep the fine scale detail readable
  • Nursery throw pillow in light aqua cottonA nursery pillow in pale aqua or white cotton shows all 20 colours without any single tone dominating
  • Girls backpack or school bag front pocketThe 3.71-inch size fits the front pocket of a kids backpack in canvas or heavy polyester
  • Cotton quilt block or patchwork panelQuilters use the mid sizes as statement blocks in mermaid or ocean-theme lap quilts on cotton batting

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
