Heres a cute little mermaid girl floating in the middle of five smiling starfish. Shes got long curly blonde hair with proper directional stitching so the curls actually swirl, and a green tail with the scales suggested in lighter fill instead of heavy outlines. The pink shell top sits right where you would expect, sweet whimsical kid-friendly look.
The starfish are honestly the fun part. Five of em, each a different colour, blue, orange, green, purple and coral pink, and every single one has a tiny smiley face stitched on. They float around the mermaid like she has her own little squad. The whole scene reads as a magical fantasy moment without going overboard, kids and toddlers between three and nine absolutely go for it.
Last summer I had a customer send me a photo of this stitched on her daughters pool tote, she had paired it with a name in cursive underneath and said her kid refused to use any other bag for a month. I keep getting messages from grandmas aswell making birthday gifts for granddaughters who are deep in the mermaid phase.
Stitch on light cotton, terry or jersey for best contrast. White, pale pink, soft yellow or sky blue tees show off the colours cleanly. Skip dark navy or black, the blonde hair and pink shell muddy out fast on dark backgrounds. Use a medium cutaway stabiliser for tees and a lightweight cutaway for towels.
12 colours total but a few are tail gradients so the actual thread changes feel manageable. The 6x6 size suits kids shirts best, the 7 inch goes on tote bags and pillows. Holler if the file gives trouble and I'll have a fresh one your way.
