Heres the messy hair cat and honestly it makes me laugh every time I look at it. Tiny scruffy black kitten staring straight at the camera with massive yellow eyes that look both terrified and curious at the same time, and the fur is going absolutely everywhere.

Proper directional satin fills the face so the cheeks, forehead and chin actually feel soft and furry. The eyes carry the whole design. Big bright yellow circles with green pupils and a tiny white highlight, which gives him that wide wide stare. Pink ear inners and a tiny pink nose finish off the face nicely.

Then theres the hair. Thin curling line-art fur strands shoot outward in every direction, like he just got out of the dryer or stuck his paw in a socket. A single dark thread colour carries all the strands so they read as wild texture instead of competing with the face. Thats what makes the whole piece feel alive.

Last week a customer sent me a photo of this stitched on her cat-mom tote and her actual cat was sniffing it on the kitchen floor, dead-on twin energy. I made this one for the chaotic-pet crowd, the people whose cat knocks things off the counter and stares at em while doing it. Works really well on cat-mom tees, vet clinic merch, kids pyjamas, fridge magnets, tote bags and framed pieces.

Stitch on plain light fabric for best contrast. White, cream, soft pink or pale grey lets the black fur strands and yellow eyes pop. Skip dark fabric, you lose the wild fur strands completely. Use medium cutaway stabiliser since the face fill packs alot of stitches, and on tee knits add a layer of mesh wash-away on top to keep the fine strands clean.
