Its a classic little rainbow -- arching bands of colour with small cloud puffs at each end, kept very compact so it fits the kind of projects where you cant hoop something huge. Four sizes starting at 1.72 wide and 2.01 tall at small, growing to 4.29 by 5.01 inches. Stitch count is 4,087 to 11,406, and at a density of 531 the satin bands are solid and smooth even at the smallest version. Three colour thread changes total, so its not a long colour sequence.

The cloud shapes at either end use the same satin technique as the arc bands, so theres a consistent texture across the whole design. Layer a lightweight cutaway on 100% cotton jersey baby fabric and lay wash-away film on top before hooping -- the cloud edges and the arc transitions are where you'll notice the difference if the knit has any texture. Hoop snugly at the right tension; at 1.72 inches the hooping grip matters more than on bigger designs. Add a second stabiliser layer under any very stretchy fabric to stop the colour segments pulling off-round during stitching. A customer last christmas ordered a set of 3 onesies with this design and said the small 1.72 inch version stitched out perfectly first time on her 100% cotton Gerber blanks.

Pair it with the Mama Rainbow design if youre making a coordinated set -- they share the same colour language and size range so they sit nicely together on the same onesie or bib pairing.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Stitch the 1.72 inch version onto a baby onesie chest for a newborn setAt 1.72 inches the arc fits within a standard onesie chest area clear of the snap line.
  • Embroider onto a baby bib corner or centre panel as part of a gift bundleBib terry cloth absorbs thread; use a topping film so the cloud edges stay defined.
  • Use the 4.29 inch size on a muslin swaddle corner as a nursery keepsakeMuslin swaddle corner is a good use for the 3 inch size -- soft tearaway backing works here.
  • Add to a knit baby hat at the 2 inch size for a sweet everyday baby lookBaby hat rib needs stabiliser cut to fit inside the hat before hooping the front panel.
  • Hoop onto a small canvas pouch as a nursery storage bag decorationA small canvas drawstring bag with the 2.5 inch rainbow on the front looks very nursery-friendly.
  • Stitch onto a kids t-shirt chest for a quick fun projectKids jersey t-shirt does well with a soft cutaway; keep the design at 3 to 4 inches.
  • Use as a pocket patch on a toddler sweatshirt or light jacketFor a toddler jacket pocket use the largest 4.29 inch size with a sew-in stabiliser behind.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
