Three anemone flowers in a loose staggered arrangement and the interesting bit is that only 2 of em are filled. Top left flower is teal, petals done in flat satin fill with a solid black centre. Bottom right is purple with the same treatment. The middle flower just sits there in pure black outline with thin radiating lines showing the petal veins and a black centre, no fill at all. Its that mix of coloured blooms and bare outline that makes the whole thing feel modern rather than just another flower design.

Leaf stems scatter around all three flowers, small elliptical leaves in black outline, some with seed pods. The whole composition sits in a roughly triangular shape which stacks well on a left chest or sits balanced on a canvas bag front. 3 colours, 2 colour changes. Wilcom handled the petal density well, 449 average density means the teal and purple petals lay flat without puckering on medium woven cotton. Stitch count goes from 8,798 at the smallest 3.49-inch to 23,767 at 7.49 inches.

I made this originally for someone who was customising canvas tote bags for a botanical garden shop back in september. She wanted something that felt designed rather than cute, and the approach of having one flower left as outline was my solution. She ordered the design twice after that, once for aprons and once for a new pouch range. Ive gotten similar requests ever since from people who want florals that dont look grandma-ish.

Stitch on white, cream, sage, or grey fabric. Both filled flowers need a light or neutral ground to read well, dont put this on a busy print. Works on cotton twill, linen, canvas, and stable jersey. Use tearaway on woven cotton, switch to cutaway on stretch fabric. Pair the bigger 7-inch on a tote bag front, smaller 4-inch on a shirt pocket or zip pouch. The outline flower is the design element that draws people in so give it clean contrast and it wont disappoint. The customer who originally commissioned a version of this came back twice for different colourways, which tells you something about how the approach lands.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Linen tote farmers market bag6-inch on a linen tote front; tearaway stabiliser on woven linen, 40wt thread on fills and 60wt on stem outlines.
  • Cotton apron bib center5-inch centred on a cotton apron bib; tearaway stabiliser, test stem cluster section on scrap cotton first.
  • Kitchen tea towel panel5-inch on a cotton tea towel; tearaway on woven cotton, cold wash gentle cycle, air dry flat to prevent distortion.
  • Linen cushion cover front7-inch on a linen cushion cover front panel; tearaway stabiliser, iron gently from back after stitching.
  • Linen pouch front panel4-inch on a linen zip pouch front; tearaway underneath, 60wt on stems keeps the botanical proportion right.
  • Fabric greeting card insert3.5-inch on cotton muslin card insert; tearaway stabiliser, trim leaving 1cm border, mount on card stock.
  • Canvas zip bag front5-inch on a canvas zip bag front; tearaway on canvas weave, topping optional, test on your specific canvas first.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
