All in black, no colour changes at all. The crescent moon curves through the composition and the inner face holds a full arrangement of flowers - big open blooms and curling leaf stems filling the lower arc section. A cat silhouette sits right on the upper tip of the crescent, back straight, tail looping down along the curve. One large butterfly perches near the top of the moon with both wings fully open, the wing veins done in fine satin lines. A second smaller butterfly hovers near the cat looking like its about to land on its head.
Single colour means all the visual interest has to come from the stitching itself. The floral section has directional fill on the petals to suggest depth, the cat is a clean silhouette, and the butterfly wings have radiating lines that give them texture. Stitch count runs 18,682 to 32,085 across 4 sizes, and the design fills between 4.9 and 7.83 inches wide. Density is 512 - moderate considering how much detail is packed in here.
I get requests all the time for gothic or witchy cat designs and this one came out of that. My own cat sat watching me digitise it last autumn, which felt appropriate honestly. Best results come on light fabric where the black thread has maximum contrast. Pop it on white or cream linen, back with a firm cutaway stabiliser, and you get a design that reads almost like a woodcut print. On dark fabrics you lose most of the internal detail.
Swap to a fresh 75/11 needle and a light topping if youre stitching on textured fabric like linen or loose-weave cotton. Stitch the moon arc first, then the flowers, then the cat and butterflies last so the final outlines sit on top cleanly. Message me if youve got any questions about the files.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Witchy or gothic aesthetic tote bags and pouchesThe black silhouette works on any light-coloured tote for a gothic cat lover gift that doesnt need a frame.
- Hoop art for a bedroom or reading nook wall displayMount in a 9-inch hoop with white linen for a finished wall piece; the crescent shape fills a round hoop well.
- Womens sweatshirts and oversized tee frontsThe 7.83 inch size centres nicely on a womens sweatshirt front without extending past the shoulder seam.
- Cat lover gift items - cushions, pouches, totesStitch on a canvas or cotton pouch for a cat lover gift; single colour means one thread loaded and no colour changes.
- Halloween or autumn themed home decor hoopsSeasonal use for halloween markets - the moon and silhouette cat combination sells well as autumn decor.
- Linen tea towels and kitchen textilesWorks on linen tea towels at the smaller sizes; blackwork on natural linen has a traditional artisan feel.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
