A customer used this on a custom horse riding jacket and sent me a photo of it stitched out. It was genuinely striking, black thread on dark denim, the kind where you only see it when the light catches the thread texture at an angle. Its a close-up of a horses eye done in a scratchy illustration style. Think of the way a pencil sketch builds up tone through hatching lines rather than flat fill areas. Thats what this is, but rendered in thread. The eye sits right at the centre, intense and detailed, with mane strands radiating outward in long loose lines.

Pop a medium cutaway stabiliser under this one. The stitch direction changes a lot across the design and without backing the fabric can drag and shift during stitching. Single black thread, 0 colour changes, 1 stop, so theres no setup time once youre hooped. Stitch count runs from 5,814 at the smallest size up to 14,472 at the largest, at a moderate density of 426. Dont expect a solid flat fill, the design builds its depth through layered directional stitching, which means the light and shadow in the thread gives it real dimension.

Put it on a pale grey or cream base fabric and it reads as a proper graphic. Put it on black or very dark fabric and the design sits quietly until the light hits the satin stitch at an angle. Both are right depending on what effect youre after. 9 sizes in the file, the smallest at 3.5 inches wide and 2.1 inches tall, the largest at 7.5 by 4.53 inches. The landscape orientation suits jacket panels, bag flaps, and cap fronts better than tall narrow spaces.

Place carefully before hooping. The mane strand lines extend further from the eye centre than you might expect so check your hoop margins on the 7.5-inch version. Run a test on scrap fabric in last winter thread colours or current stock and see how the density feels.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Horse riding jacket or vest panelDramatic on a jacket panel, the black-on-dark-denim version is striking at the 6- to 7-inch size.
  • Denim jacket back or sleeveFits across a denim sleeve or upper-back panel without needing a border or surrounding design.
  • Equestrian sports bag or toteStitched on a sports bag flap it gives a bold graphic feel for equestrian club or team gear.
  • Baseball or snapback cap front panelThe wide landscape orientation fits a cap front panel well at the 3.5- to 4-inch width.
  • Jockey silk fabric panelsJockey silk panels take the design well, single-color setup means no colour-matching headaches.
  • Horse owner gift items on black cottonBlack cotton pouches or tote bags make a great understated gift base for horse owners.
  • Bedroom cushion for equestrian enthusiastsOn a bedroom cushion it reads more like art than decor, strong graphic presence at the larger sizes.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
