Its a butterfly but the body is an eye. Literally. Right in the centre of the wingspan theres a wide-open all-seeing eye staring back at you, with a small dark pupil ringed in fine satin stitching. The wings fan out from that point in full symmetry, and every section carries tiny feather veins and cross-hatched fill lines that took alot of trims to pull off. Single black thread, no colour changes at all.

The wing shapes have that slightly old-school tattoo-flash feel, pointy at the tips, layered like actual butterfly anatomy but with extra drama around the edges. I drew the eye with a radiating underlay so it sits raised and dimensional against the flatter wing fills. Theres a real difference in texture between those two zones and honestly its one of my favourite things about stitching this design out.

I get pings from customers doing crystal and tarot-themed apparel asking if this pairs well with text designs. It does. Pop the eye in the centre of a tee and run a font underneath, or use it solo on a left chest. A customer ordered it last month for a whole run of boho market tote bags and sent me a photo when they finished, the black on natural canvas looked realy sharp.

Use a medium-weight cutaway stabiliser here. Black thread on cream linen or oatmeal canvas reads gorgeous. Skip busy prints because the fine linework in the wings disappears against anything noisy. The 3.5-inch sits clean on a pocket or patch, the 7.49-inch fills a full chest panel or tote front.

Stitch count runs from about 9,700 on the smallest size up to 19,650 on the largest. And theres only one colour stop so your bobbin wont need changing mid-run. Holler if there's any issue loading the file and I'll send a fresh one straight away.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Boho market tote bags in natural canvasNatural canvas tote at 7.49 inches for a boho market stall where the black linework pops against oatmeal grounds.
  • Tarot and crystal shop merchandiseCrystal or tarot shop merch runs on charcoal cotton tees, single black thread keeps per-unit cost very low.
  • Left-chest pocket on linen shirtsLeft chest pocket of a linen shirt at 3-in for a barely-there occult touch that works on smart-casual fabric.
  • Denim jacket back panel statement pieceDenim jacket back at the largest size for a tattoo-flash effect that wears better over years than most print options.
  • Patch making on felt or twill fabricStiff felt cut-out patches for iron-on sales at craft markets, the single-colour format keeps the punch clean.
  • Bohemian wall hoop art framed in 8-inch ringSatin label strip for a small clothing brand that wants a witchy or occult identity motif on handmade garments.
  • Festival tees and tank topsBoho bedroom or studio wooden hoop wall art at the medium mark, the eye centre gives it a natural focal point.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
