The dragon eye takes up practically the entire design field, iris first, with the vertical slit pupil cutting straight down through emerald green thread. The radiating lines in the iris run outward from the pupil like spokes, the density sits at 1,089 on those sections, wilcom handled the directional fill across the curved iris shape without banding which was the tricky part of this one. Amber thread rings the outer iris before the crimson scales take over at the edges.

Six colours total, jet black, emerald, amber, crimson and two transition tones, which is controlled for how much is going on in that iris detail. Run the satin underlay on the scale sections perpendicular to the top fill or youll get lifting on thicker hooded sweatshirt fabric, its worth doing that step first before the main pass. Cutaway stabiliser is the only option here, this stitch density on a charcoal fleece hoodie will pull without proper backing. Skip tearaway entirely on this one, theres too much density for it to release cleanly.

Stitch count goes from 21,837 at 3.51 inches wide up to 56,526 on the largest 7.51 inch version, the big size is what most buyers want for hoodie back panels. One customer sent me a message last autumn after stitching the 7-inch version on a black hoodie for a cosplay event, she said the emerald iris read clearly even under convention hall lighting which is a decent real-world test for saturation. Add a topping on any terry or textured base fabric or the satin fill on the iris loses its directional sheen.

Best on dark fabric where the emerald and amber pop without needing extra contrast. Avoid pale or mid-grey backgrounds since the amber tones wash out against anything too close in value.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Gothic hoodie back panel designThe 7-inch version on a charcoal hoodie back panel is the most common use, the eye reads at distance with strong contrast.
  • Fantasy cosplay costume accessoryStitched on a black felt patch it works as a quick sew-on accent for cosplay costume pieces.
  • Dark fantasy tote bag centrepieceA 5-inch version on a black canvas tote is a bold statement for fantasy fans who want something non-cartoonish.
  • Dragon fan denim jacket patchOn a denim jacket sleeve or pocket flap the 3.5-inch version adds gothic detail without overpowering the fabric.
  • Gaming streamer merch itemGaming content creators have used this for merch runs on black tees, the emerald iris photographs well.
  • Gothic bedroom throw pillowOn a dark charcoal or black pillow cover the amber and emerald tones create a striking gothic bedroom accent.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
