Honestly this is the most technically ambitious single colour design I have done. The mystical night owl faces directly forward with wings spread wide across the full design width, a crescent moon sitting on its chest and star details scattered across the feather groups. Below the talons a foliage and cloud base grounds the whole composition. At the largest 7.5 inch size the stitch count hits 40,588. All in one colour.

Black thread throughout and the way the detail is acheived is entirely through directional stitching. Each feather group has its own angle, the moon sits in a flat fill against the textured wing, the foliage base uses multiple stitch densities to separate the layers. Up close under good lighting it looks genuinely three dimensional even though its all one thread colour.

Five sizes from 3.5 inches wide up to 7.5 inches, heights from 2.37 up to 5.09 inches in landscape orientation. Smallest size comes in at 18,112 stitches which is already a lot for a 3.5 inch piece. One customer told me she took nearly four hours to stitch the full 7.5 inch version and described it as the most satisfying embroidery project she'd done all year. Worth every minute.

Use this on sturdy wovens, heavy cotton, denim or canvas that can handle the stitch density. Use a cutaway stabiliser, tearaway wont hold under 40,000 stitches on anything with give. Black on black fabric is obviously going to disappear so use grey, cream, natural linen, dark navy or deep forest green to get the stitching to read. Skip jersey for the bigger sizes. Pop it on canvas if you want maximum drama.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Statement sweatshirt or hoodie chest printsThe full wingspan at 7.5 inches fills a sweatshirt chest panel as a dramatic centrepiece.
  • Denim jacket back panelsThe landscape format and wing spread works perfectly across a denim jacket back panel.
  • Mystical home decor embroidery hoopsStretched in a 9 or 10 inch embroidery hoop with linen backing it becomes a framed wall piece.
  • Owl lover framed textile art piecesOwl enthusiasts and bird art collectors frame this in a hoop as proper textile wall art.
  • Dark academia tshirt designsOn a grey or cream fitted tshirt it reads as a dark academia art piece rather than craft.
  • Canvas tote art bags for autumn marketsStitched on a natural canvas tote bag it draws attention at autumn and winter craft markets.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
