Played with double-exposure on this mystical wolf piece, the whole thing stitches in a single black thread but theres a lot going on beneath the outer silhouette. The outer shape is a seated wolf or fox facing right, alert ears, sharp muzzle turned slightly outward. The chest and lower body open into a nature scene: bare winter branches reach upward from the base, small butterflies lift off around the mid-section, tight spiral swirls sit near the haunches, tiny pine tree shapes tuck in between and a wave-like curved ground line sweeps across the lower body. The head and upper back stay solid black so the creature reads as one bold shape from a distance but rewards a closer look.

Single colour, single thread, 32,791 stitches on the largest at 6.16 by 8 inches. Wilcom EmbroideryStudio plots the nature elements as direction-changed fill sections so they contrast against the solid outer without needing a second colour. Density at 665 stitches per square inch means its a firm solid piece, not a light outline, sits proud on fabric with real presence. Four sizes from 3.85 by 5 inches up to the big 6.16 by 8.

Keep backgrounds light: white, cream, pale grey, light tan or dusty sage. The solid black reads cleanest against light neutrals. I stitched a test on charcoal grey once and lost all the detail, so skip dark fabric. Use a medium cutaway stabiliser, this piece is dense enough that it needs firm backing to stop the hoop shifting mid-run. Hoop snug and use a sharp 75/11 needle.

A customer who does wilderness-themed gifts had this stitched on a pale grey sweatshirt last autumn for a forest school teacher birthday. She said the forest detail doesnt even fully register until you hold it close, which is exactly how these double-exposure pieces should work.

Wildlife lovers, outdoor educators and anyone into that norse or celtic woodland aesthetic keep picking it up. Its a genuinely striking piece and the stitch detail holds well across all four sizes.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
