I had a customer write me last october who works in a hospital and wanted something she could stitch onto staff halloween costume accessories, hats, lanyards, scrub pockets. This nurse ghost checkered design came directly out of that conversation. Five colours: white ghost, black checker grid and outline, red cross, grey shadow, and a pale cream on the hat interior. 13,276 stitches at density 238, Wilcom digitised. Its 4.5 inches wide by 1.92 inches tall, so it reads as a banner strip thats really good for horizontal placement on bags, pockets, and hat brims.
The checkered background is the part that really just kinda eats through stitches, the alternating black and white squares at density 238 means you cant rush this one. Run it at 80% speed or slower if your machine tends to skip stitches on dense area fills. The ghost outline is a satin column run after the checkered grid, so the sequencing is already correct in the file, you dont need to reorder. Underlay stitches are laid under every square and the ghost body separately, so even on light fabric the white ghost doesnt show the backing colour through it.
Stitch it on a scrub pocket, a lanyard topper, a halloween party apron, or a canvas trick-or-treat bag. Use no-show mesh on any stretch fabric, tearaway on woven cotton and canvas. For the red cross satin block on the hat, pick a 40-weight rayon or polyester thread, a thick 30-weight will blur the cross shape at this scale. Avoid stabiliser that tears unevenly under the dense grid stitching, a cheap tearaway can split mid-run and shift the fabric. This one comes out really well on white cotton fabric where the checker grid pops the most. Pop it on a white or cream base fabric for the best checker contrast.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
