This one is a full ocean floor still-life arrangement, not just a tail on its own. The mermaid tail sits in the upper left, its blue with orange striped scale markings running up the fin, so it looks like a tropical reef fish tail rather than the classic pastel mermaid you see everywhere. Behind and beside it, two tall seaweed fronds in dark green and a medium blue extend upward and outward filling the centre and right of the composition. At the bottom, theres a yellow clamshell with a heavy black outline and the ridged radial satin pattern inside, and just to its right an orange starfish sits flat with the typical five-point body.

6 colours total: dark green for the tall seaweed, two different blues for the tail and the shorter seaweed frond, yellow for the shell, black for the outlines and detail work, and orange for the starfish and tail stripes. 5 colour changes and 10 trims on the smaller sizes. Stitch counts from wallet hoops scaling to 33,042 at the largest, thats the complex tier fully justified. Density is 589 so its a decently packed design, especially around the seaweed fronds where the tatami fill creates that woven leafy texture.

5 sizes, smallest is 3.49 tall by 3.50 wide, largest is 7.48 by 7.50 inches, basically a square at full size. For anything bigger than the 4.5 inch hoop size, Slide a soft cutaway behind the work, so many separate elements pulling in different directions. On a tote bag or canvas panel, the cutaway is non-negotiable. On terry or fleece, add a water-soluble topping and hoop with real tension or the tall leafy fronds will look uneven. Avoid hooping too loose and those woven-fill sections in the seaweed will stay distinct and textured rather than sinking.

A customer last month put this on the front of a large beach tote for a housewarming gift for someone moving to the coast. It looked completely different to anything you can buy ready-made. Stitch it on natural canvas or deep navy and the 6-colour palette reads like a proper illustrated print. Run it on white linen if you want that deep-sea scene feeling.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Beach tote bag large front panelThe large 7.5 inch hoop fills most of a standard tote front without needing any extra framing design
  • Ocean-theme bedroom cushion or pillow coverPillow covers in linen or medium-weight cotton are ideal, the 6-colour palette looks rich on neutral fabric
  • Coastal wall art in a 9 or 10 inch display hoopFor a wall hoop, stretch natural linen tightly in a 10 inch hoop and use the full 7.5 inch size file
  • Kids ocean-theme backpack front panelKids backpacks in polyester canvas need a firm cutaway so the seaweed fronds stay upright after handling
  • Beach house tea towel or hand towelTea towels in linen-cotton take a medium tearaway and the tatami seaweed texture shows beautifully after washing
  • Mermaid-theme baby quilt block panelQuilt panel cotton takes a light cutaway and this design acts as the hero block in a 9 or 12 patch layout

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
