The seahorse wraps its tail around a little strand of seaweed at the bottom, which is something you see in nature photos but it took alot of planning to get the tail coil to read properly as a curve in satin stitch. The tangerine orange body fill runs directionally following each bony ridge segment, so there's an actual texture to the surface rather than a flat block of colour. Its one of my more detailed designs and the stitch count of 13,568 to 31,801 across the nine sizes reflects that.

The dorsal fin on the back fans outward in small narrow satin sections, theyre tight enough that you'll want a 75/11 needle and good tension to stop them from pulling. Aqua canvas is the fabric I tested on and it was realy the ideal base, the sky blue water shapes nearly blend at the edges which gives it a watercolour effect. You can stitch on a light tee too but cutaway stabiliser is essential at density 928, dont go tearaway on this one.

I get messages every few weeks from coastal decor customers buying this for nursery pieces. One customer ordered the 7 and a half inch version for a nursery wall hoop last spring, she said the tangerine seahorse on a pale aqua linen looked exactly like what she'd been searching for. She was suprised how clean the ridge segments came out given the size. Glad the digitising held up on that one.

Stitch the body first, then the seaweed, then the water shapes last. Use a cutaway stabiliser for any fabric with stretch or texture. Add a water-soluble topping if you're working on anything with a visible weave to stop the satin threads sinking in.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Aqua canvas tote bag for a coastal market, beach trip or seaside giftUse the 6-inch version centred on an aqua canvas tote with cutaway stabiliser and a 75/11 sharp needle
  • Nursery wall hoop art on linen for a marine or ocean-themed baby roomthe full 7-in on pale linen makes a striking nursery wall hoop, frame it with a simple natural wood hoop ring
  • Beach towel corner embroidery for a summer holiday personalisation projectStitch the 4-inch version in the corner of a plush beach towel using topping on the terry loop surface
  • Light tee chest design for an ocean lover or marine biology enthusiastThe 5-inch chest version on a light tee needs firm cutaway stabiliser so the high density doesnt pucker the fabric
  • Coastal cushion cover for a beach house living room or sunroomUse the 6-inch feature on a 20-inch cushion cover front in a coordinating sky blue or sage fabric
  • Canvas zip pouch for a snorkelling or diving equipment bagThe 4-inch version fits cleanly on a canvas zip pouch front panel with room for initials beside it if needed
  • Baby romper or onesie for a tropical or sea-themed nurserythe chest 3.5 on a baby romper needs a soft cutaway piece under the fabric in the hooping area
  • Linen tea towel for a coastal kitchen or seaside holiday cottageStitch the 5-inch feature on a linen tea towel with tearaway stabiliser and a topping layer over the texture

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
