This cute octopus has glasses -- little round ones perched on a face that's kinda smug and kinda adorable at the same time. Nine colours in the build, 9 sizes between 3.5 and 7.5 inches wide, stitch count running from 23,724 on the smallest up to 55,915 on the full-size. Eight tentacles splay out in that flat kawaii spread, each one tipped with satin-stitch highlights that catch light at different angles. Its a sea creature with personality, and customers keep coming back for it.

I put the 4-inch run on a cotton canvas tote last month and a customer wrote back to say her daughter wouldnt go to school without it on her backpack. Density sits at 1,288 -- solid enough to give the tentacles real body on fleece or denim without the build going rigid. Pop a firm cutaway backer under stretchy knit fabric, tearaway on woven linen or cotton canvas. Pop wash-away film onto the face panel if your fabric texture is rough enough to break up the fill.

Wilcom drove the digitising, so the underlay under those tentacle fills is mapped to pull flat before the colour stitches drop in. You dont need to fight the machine over registration -- hoop tight, run at a medium speed on the fill sections, and the directional satin detail does its job cleanly. Skip light beige backgrounds; the charcoal outline reads sharpest on white, ocean blue, or pale seafoam. Best on beach bags, backpacks, or any ocean-theme project youre working through. Hit me if the files need sorting and Ill get back to you.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Kids school bags and backpack patchesStitch the 3.5-inch size onto a backpack pocket -- sits perfectly without overcrowding the panel.
  • Teacher tote bags and classroom decorWorks great on canvas totes for science or reading-themed teacher gifts, especially in bright thread.
  • Ocean-themed baby shower giftsPop the 5-inch version on a onesie front for an ocean-themed baby shower -- gets a laugh every time.
  • Beach towels and summer apparelUse the 7.5-inch run on a beach towel border, works best hooped on terry with a wash-away topping.
  • Science camp or aquarium event merchClubs and events can stitch onto polo shirts or camp tees -- the 4-inch size fits a chest placement well.
  • Bookworm or nerdy-cute gift itemsPair with a pair of tiny glasses charm and giftwrap as a nerdy-cute present for any age.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
