Its all outline, no fill. The butterfly sits at a slight angle, wings spread like its mid-flight, and the inside of each wing panel has these clean parallel satin lines running across it. The body is a small solid oval and the antennae fan out at the top like thin spokes. Really graphic look, the kind of thing that reads well at a small size and still holds its shape at the bigger sizes too.

Single colour thread, so theres no colour changes to worry about mid-hoop. Wilcom set the density and directional underlay on this, which is why the satin lines sit so flat on the fabric. Stitch count runs from 3,857 on the smallest to 10,218 at 5 inches wide, so its a quick stitch on pretty much any machine. Use a firm cutaway stabiliser under light knits or use a sturdy tear-away on woven cotton, it really depends on the base fabric you're working with.

One customer stitched this on a set of white linen dinner napkins last spring and said the orange thread against the white ground looked sharper than she expected for a line design. I thought that was a great call honestly. Pop it on a tote, a canvas pouch, a light denim shirt pocket, and it just works without being loud.

4 sizes in the download: 2.01x1.74 inches up to 5.01x4.33 inches. Pick the one that fits your hoop and youre good to go.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Stitch onto linen napkins or a table runner for a spring place settingThe single orange colour pops cleanly against white or cream linen without needing colour matching
  • Add to a canvas tote bag as a minimalist nature accentThe compact 2-inch size fits a standard tote front pocket hoop with room to spare
  • Use on a denim shirt pocket or jacket back panelA denim shirt pocket is small enough that the 2-inch version fits perfectly without overcrowding
  • Embroider onto a child's cotton dress or a sundress hemThe open-wing stance gives it movement, nice on flowing cotton fabric
  • Hoop onto a canvas cosmetic pouch or zipper bagFirm cutaway under canvas holds the satin lines flat without puckering
  • Add to a linen tea towel for a kitchen gift setA tea towel in white or natural cotton makes the orange really stand out
  • Stitch on a plain white pillowcase for a subtle nature-themed bedroomGoes great as a pair on matching pillowcases, one butterfly on each

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
