The pumpkin body here is made entirely of scrollwork, no flat fill, no solid colour sections. Its all curling satin swirls packed together in dense baroque spirals that follow the shape of each pumpkin rib. The surface has this almost lace-like quality when its done in a burnt orange thread on a cream or white fabric. At the top, theres a chunky green stem with vertical ridges and a few curling leaf tendrils that match the organic feel of the body scrolls.
Wilcom drove the underlay planning on this one, which matters because open scrollwork needs precise directional stitching or the individual swirls start to look wobbly. At density 553 the satin fills are rich and dense without being rigid. Six sizes from 2.5 to 7.5 inches wide, stitch count goes from 10,091 all the way to 30,492 at the largest. Its genuinely a complex piece at the bigger sizes, so give yourself extra stabiliser and dont rush the tension settings.
A customer emailed me in September asking if this would work on a linen table centre for a Thanksgiving dinner table and I told her yes but to back it with cutaway and use a topping on the linen weave. She sent back a photo in November, looked brilliant. The scrollwork catches candlelight in a way that plain filled pumpkins simply dont.
Best results on tightly woven cotton, linen with topping, or quilting-weight fabric. Skip the stretchy stuff for this one, 30,000 plus stitches on the largest hoop need a firm ground to sit flat. Layer a cutaway stabiliser underneath and press a water-soluble topping over the linen if thats your fabric. Add a light run-in stitch around the pumpkin outline before the fill sections to lock the ground fabric before the heavy satin work begins.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Autumn table runners and dining centrepiecesRun 3 repeats at the 4 inch size along a linen table runner for an elegant Thanksgiving centrepiece that pairs with candles.
- Thanksgiving dinner napkins and place settingsStitch the 3 inch version onto cotton napkins for a coordinated autumn place setting that washes and irons well.
- Fall wreath fabric accent piecesBack with a rigid stabiliser and use as an applique accent piece on a grapevine door wreath for October and November.
- Seasonal tote bags and shoppersThe 2-colour build means this is quick to set up on a canvas tote bag without bobbin changes mid-run.
- Decorative cushion covers for autumn decorAt 7.5 inches on a velvet cushion cover the dense scrollwork has a raised texture that feels as good as it looks.
- Wedding autumn theme favour bagsThe botanical style bridges Halloween and Thanksgiving so its still appropriate on gift bags all the way through November.
- Quilting block inserts for fall themed quiltsPiece this into a 7.5 inch quilt block with coordinating fall fabrics for a focal point that ties the whole quilt together.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
