This one is the most detailed design in the christmas range and its for people who want something that looks genuinely illustrated rather than just a simple holiday icon. The owl sits round and compact on a horizontal branch, wearing a red Santa hat with a white bobble and a long red fringed scarf that drapes down both sides. Two small christmas trees stand on either side of the owl, each with a gold star at the top and small red dot ornaments. Below the whole composition a cursive Merry Christmas sits in dark thread. Eight colours total and a density of 1097, which is the highest in this batch.
Wilcom EmbroideryStudio built a hatched texture pattern on the bird body fill, so even though its a single teal-green colour for the whole bird the directional satin lines give it a feathered look. 5 sizes from 3.51 to 7.51 inches wide, stitch counts open at 22091 on the small version and 53947 at full scale. Thats a heavy run. Press a heavy cutaway behind it, check your bobbin before starting the big sizes, and run the machine at 70-80% speed for the first two colour blocks to let the underlay set cleanly on whatever fabric youre on.
A customer last month ordered the 7.51-inch for a christmas jumper back panel for her craft fair table and said she was suprised how long the run took but equally suprised by how clean all 8 colour transitions came out. She mentioned the cursive text at the bottom stayed legible even at the smaller 3.5-inch size. Layer a sturdy backing under cotton fleece and add a topping layer so the cross-hatch fill texture doesnt disappear into pile.
Run this on christmas jumper backs, large holiday tote bags, festive cushion covers, and advent calendar panels. Skip lightweight fabrics for the large sizes, the 53947-stitch run at 7.51 inches needs a stable ground cloth to sit on without distorting.
