Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, theres always a rush for this one. People want something bold enough to actually read on a jacket or a cap from across the room, and this design delivers. Its a bald eagle wings thrown wide in a full swoop, and the whole body is basically an American flag stitched into the shape of a bird. Left upper wing runs royal blue tatami with white stars scattered across it. Right wing and the chest fill in red and white horizontal stripes, directional satin that catches the light. White head, yellow beak, brown legs and golden yellow talons. Thats five colours working hard and at 38,101 stitches on the 7-inch its genuinely dense coverage.

A guy who sells at county fairs put this centred on a black denim jacket last summer and wrote me saying he got stopped three times before he even reached his stall. Im not suprised, because the density here is 722 stitches per square inch so the colour saturation on canvas and twill is realy something else. The underlay holds everything flat even on heavier fabrics. Needs a cutaway stabiliser on anything with stretch because the satin stripes can pull badly on jersey or fleece without it. At the smaller 3.28-inch size it drops clean onto a cap front without crowding the brim.

Hoop it tight. Centre it slightly higher than you think on a jacket back so the talons clear the waistband. On fleece and terry use a topping so the star detail doesnt sink into the nap and go blurry. Skip jump stitches by matching your bobbin thread colour to the nearest zone so the underside stays clean. The 5-inch sits great on a canvas tote front panel without any re-scaling, and the 4-inch is the right fit for a cotton twill apron bib. Add an extra pass of underlay on linen if you want the red stripes to stay saturated through washing.

Holler at me if the tie-offs come loose.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • 4th of July denim jacket backA buyer centred the 7-inch on a black denim jacket back and said strangers asked about it all evening.
  • Baseball cap front panelThe 3.28-inch fits a standard cap front without re-scaling, stars still read sharp at that size.
  • Canvas tote bagNeeds a cutaway on the body but the 5-inch front panel placement on canvas tote sits clean.
  • Veteran's Day memorial shirtPairs well on a plain navy cotton tee where the flag colours pop hard against the dark ground.
  • Patriotic market apronA craft-fair seller backed the 4-inch onto twill aprons with iron-on adhesive and sold out same weekend.
  • Military tribute fleece blanketUse a medium-weight cutaway on fleece so the satin stripes dont pucker along the edges.
  • Festival bag patchThe 3.28-inch version patches onto a festival bag front panel without hooping the whole bag.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
