Two cowgirl boots sit side by side, the foot and toe section covered in red and white stripes that wave across like an actual flag, and the tall shaft is solid denim blue packed with white satin stars. A wide-brim white cowboy hat rests right on top of the boots, its hatband wrapped in blue and white stars, and theres this big full red bow tied at the front of it. Tan heels and thick black outlining at the boot tops finish the whole thing off. Its busy in the best way, every section doing its own thing but somehow it all reads as one very American image.

Stitch-wise this one is genuinely dense. I used directional satin for the stripes and tatami fill on the hat brim so two areas of white thread actually read as different textures. Use a medium-weight cutaway under denim or twill and a no-show cutaway on stretchy cotton jersey since tearaway wont hold clean edges through those long satin runs on the stripes. Topping film on fleece or terry cloth keeps the white stars from sinking into the pile. Hoop your stabiliser tight rather than the garment itself on anything with stretch, and pop a 75/11 needle in to keep the bobbin tension even through the dense star sections.

A crafter I know ordered this one last week for a batch of canvas tote bags she was prepping for a 4th of July stall, and she sent me photos of the finished bags and they looked brilliant. The 6.5 inch centred on a navy canvas tote is striking from across a market table. Try the 4 inch on a denim shirt yoke or chest pocket for something more everyday western, and stitch the smaller size onto white cotton onesies for a baby shower gift that still reads patriotic. On white linen the design looks almost vintage rodeo, on red cotton its more bold and graphic.

Skip the topping film on smooth cotton twill since the satin fills already come out sharp on those surfaces. Pick a thread brand with consistent colour batches because the red and blue need to match across every stripe section or the flag illusion falls apart. Add a small piece of water-soluble topping over the star sections on any napped fabric to keep the underlay from shadowing through the white, and centre the design carefully because that wide brim extends well past the boots and asymmetric hooping will throw off the whole composition.

Get in touch and Ill split it for a smaller hoop.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • 4th of July tote bagTote bags take the 6.5 inch really well on canvas, navy or red backgrounds make the white stars punch hard.
  • Denim jacket back panelHonestly my favourite placement is a denim jacket back, centred at 6 inches it fills the panel without crowding.
  • Canvas baseball cap frontThe 3 inch fits a baseball cap front without pulling, just make sure the cutaway is sewn tight to the brim edge.
  • Western shirt yoke or pocketHonestly one of the cleaner placements is a western shirt yoke, 4 inches on cotton poplin and the flag stripes read perfectly.
  • Patriotic apron bibCentre the 5 inch on a white apron bib and the red bow on the hat really pops against the plain fabric.
  • Baby onesie giftBaby onesies look brilliant with the 3 inch on white cotton jersey, soft enough for everyday wear.
  • Craft fair canvas tote giftsCraft fair sellers do well with this on canvas totes since the bold flag colours sell the design from a distance.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
