This design is clever in a simple way. The christmas tree shape is built entirely from stacked paw prints, row by row, with each tier using a slightly different colour so you can see the individual shapes clearly. Six colours in total, the paws themselves get four or five of them in alternating greens, reds and neutrals, and the remaining colour handles the star topper and any outline details. Density sits at 472 stitches per square inch which is comfortable for the filled satin pads in each paw.

Four sizes from 3.51 by 2.63 inch up to 6.51 by 4.87 inch. Its wider than tall at every size, so placement works best on surfaces where theres horizontal room. A shirt front works well, but so does a flat tote face or a blanket panel. Stitch counts go from 8232 to 14958, the biggest version runs in about 20 to 25 minutes. Drop polymesh under knit fabric because with six colour changes and that kind of density, tearaway can shift if the fabric gives at all during stitching. On woven cotton or denim a medium tearaway is fine.

The colour sequence alternates through the tree tiers so ya see contrast between rows. If you want a more uniform look, just use the same green across all the paw stops. Some customers do the paws all in one colour and only change for the star, which makes it read more like a traditional tree from a distance. Stitch the 6.5-inch version centred on a dark sweatshirt and its genuinely impressive when its done.

I had a customer last christmas who put this on a matching set of sweatshirts for her whole family, including the dog bandana. She said the hooping on the bandana was tricky but the design itself came out great. Pick your stabiliser based on the fabric and youre set.

Hooped tight on a stable woven or backed well on knit, the small paw detail stitches stay clean across the size range.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Christmas sweatshirts for dog and cat ownersPet owner christmas jumper in dark green with alternating red and white paw rows, a customer last year did matching ones for her two kids and herself.
  • Pet Christmas stockings with personalised holiday motifFabric stocking front panel before sewing up, the wide horizontal layout fills the stocking face naturally at the mid or large size.
  • Holiday tote bags and gift bags for pet loversDog bandana in red and green holiday thread for the pet's christmas day photo, a use that comes up in my messages every single november.
  • Christmas throw blankets with repeating paw tree patternFamily christmas pyjama set for kids who are animal-obsessed, the paw tree reads clearly on cotton jersey with double cutaway backing.
  • Festive dog bandanas and pet costume accessoriesFelt gift tag at the 3.51-inch version with a hole punched above and a ribbon loop, a handmade alternative to printed tags.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
