Theres really 2 things happening at once here and they work together kinda perfectly. The cactus body itself is olive green with gray mist shading running down the sides, giving it that rounded cylindrical volume. Then all across the body theres rows of short sharp amber spines, each one a tiny satin column angling outward. The flowers are blush pink with brick red at the centre and a little saffron yellow at the very heart. One flower is fully open at the bottom, 1 is mid-bloom above it, and a tight bud points up at the top.

10 colours total, which sounds modest but the petal shading alone uses three pink tones to get the gradient from pale blush outer petals to that deeper brick red core. Wilcom did the digitising and the spine rows are proper individual satin stitches, not just a textured fill. That extra work in the digitising is what makes this design genuinely different from cheap stock cactus designs. 50k stitches at the largest 7.5-inch size, just over 1k on the 3.5-inch, so it scales really nicely across all 9 sizes.

I made this one after a customer sent me a photo of a southwest-theme living room she was decorating and asked if I could do something that wasnt just a round barrel cactus. She wanted tall and elegant. So I went for the columnar type with real flowers rather than a cartoon. She ordered it on 3 different pillow covers in different sizes. Reach me if ya want something similar customised and I'll see what I can do.

Stitch this on natural linen, cream cotton or sand-coloured canvas for the most botanical feel. It works aswell on white for a cleaner minimal look. Avoid very busy patterned fabric because the fine spine rows will get lost in the texture. Run light cutaway under any woven ground to keep those individual spine stitches lifted crisp off the surface. Dont rush the bobbin tension check on this one before you start.

Pair the tall vertical composition with a simple text line underneath like a plant name or short quote. Its narrow enough that it fits a slim chest panel on a tee without crowding. Best fabric: linen. Send me a photo if the cactus colour comes out muddy and Ill rework the digitising..

  • Boho home textilesStitch on a linen cushion or throw blanket panel for a boho living room that already has woven textures and earthy tones.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
