Drew up this flamingo as a character more than a bird study. Shes standing on a lil green grass tuft, body all pink with these curly swirl feather details scattered across her wings and neck -not realistic feathers, more like someone drew spirals all over her. The beak is hooked and two-toned, tan on top and brown underneath, and theres a cute bow tied just above the ankles because why not. Long lashes on the blue eyes. A small aqua highlight on the wing. She looks like a flamingo who is very aware of herself.

Wilcom EmbroideryStudio routed the 10 colour sequence to minimise jumps across the curly feather swirls -thats the tricky part of this design, getting the spirals to stitch in the right order so you dont get a nest of floating threads between the loops. 9 colour changes. Colours include a lime green for the grass, olive, tan, brown, pink, white, aqua, mauve-purple, grey, and black. Stitch count is 7,898 at the smallest size and goes up to 17,937 at 7.5 x 5.29 inches across 5 files.

Because the spiral feather details are kinda fine at the smaller end, I wouldnt go below the 3.51-inch size on anything with texture -the curls will fill in on pile or waffle fabric. On smooth cotton or a stable woven poplin theyll come out clearly even at the small size. Use a cutaway stabiliser, the design has 40 trims at minimum and the thread tail management matters more with high-colour-change designs. Run a test hoop first on whatever fabric youre using -the grass green at the base catches a lot of thread interaction from the flamingo body layers above it.

A customer messaged me last week after running the 5-in tote version on a peach cotton tote bag for a bridal shower gift, said it got more compliments than the bag itself. I get that -the combination of the pink against a warm peach base with the curly detail is genuinely quite something. Avoid dark or busy background fabrics, the 10 colours need neutral or light base cloth to read properly. Dm me if youre unsure about thread substitutes for the aqua or the mauve -those 2 are the ones that vary most between thread brands.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Bridal shower gift on a tote or cosmetics bagThe bright palette and feminine details make this popular for bridal shower and hen party gift bags -the 5-inch size centres on most tote front panels.
  • Girls summer tee chest placementOn a white or pale yellow cotton tee the pink body and aqua highlights read as a summery fashion graphic rather than a kids design.
  • Beach bag or pool toteThe tropical beach association makes this an obvious choice for a canvas or cotton pool bag -the colours hold well on the sandy-coloured natural canvas.
  • Throw pillow cover in white or creamOn a white cotton pillow cover the curly feather details and the multi-colour palette create a decorative textile feel rather than a craft project look.
  • Tropical party favour pouchesAt the 3.51-inch size the flamingo fits on a small organza pouch or cotton drawstring bag for party favours at a flamingo-themed event.
  • Kids room wall hoop artHooped on white quilting cotton and displayed in a 8-inch hoop this makes a cheerful kids room decoration especially for a beach or tropical themed space.
  • Apron front panel for a summer eventOn a kitchen apron for a summer cookout or outdoor event this adds a lil personality to a plain canvas apron without looking out of place.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
