Mocked up a few versions of this playful dolphin before settling on the round bouncy look -- six colours, circus pose, pink mouth detail, striped ball on the nose. The proportions matter a lot with performing-animal designs and this one leans into cute rather than realistic. Sky blue for the main body, teal for shading, dark navy for the fins, pink for the throat/snout detail, white belly highlight, and a bold black outline holding it all together. Small ocean splash at the base so it doesnt look like its just floating.

I get questions comparing this to my other dolphin-with-ball design -- the key difference here is the pink mouth and the slightly rounder build, which reads a bit younger and more cartoonish. A customer last week bought this one specifically for a baby shower gift bag set and said it was exactly the right level of cute. At 2 inches its around 4,997 stitches which is quick. At 6 inches the count climbs to around 22,370 with all the colour work. Six colour changes -- its straightforward with the PDF colour chart open beside you, the sequence flows logically.

Use tearaway stabilizer on cotton knits, medium-weight cutaway on denim or canvas. Stitch a test run at the 3 inch size first -- thats 8,175 stitches and gives you a good read on how the colours sit on your fabric. Skip shiny or stretch fabric, the fills dont behave. Zip hits your inbox right after payment, PDF inside has full size and colour chart.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Baby bibs and onesies for an ocean-animal nursery themeThe pink mouth detail reads as friendly and approachable for very young children's items.
  • Kids swim coverups and beach towels for a fun performing dolphin motifOn a white swim coverup the 4 inch size sits perfectly on the chest.
  • Tote bags and backpacks with a bright cartoon characterSky blue body pops well against natural canvas or cream cotton.
  • Nursery wall hoop art -- the round proportions look great framedIn a round 6 inch hoop with white fabric the round dolphin shape fills it nicely.
  • Kids birthday party items -- shirts, bags, buntingBirthday party tees with the kids name and this design are a popular combo.
  • Craft fair children's items -- cartoon characters with clear colours sell consistentlyCartoon characters with bold outlines and limited colours hold detail well on craft market items.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
