Back in august I started getting orders for something halloween-themed but not gory, more harvest-fair, cosy-spooky, the kind of thing you can put on a childs bag without anyone being upset. This Pottsfield harvest festival scene is exactly that. Its thirteen colours and 25,848 stitches in a 3.51 by 3.21 inch square, which is a lot of work crammed into a small footprint, but the digitising in Wilcom keeps it from becoming a tangled mess.
The density is 356 across the fill sections, so theres real visual depth here, the pumpkin character and the surrounding harvest elements have that stacked, layered look you get when underlay angles shift between colour zones. I arranged the 13 colour stops to minimize your time at the machine. I had a customer email me after she stitched this on a trick-or-treat bag, she expected it to be fiddly given the stitch count but said it ran smooth all the way through and came out cleanly on cotton canvas, no drama at all.
Use no-show mesh on this one, full stop. Twenty-five thousand stitches on a square this small creates tension, and a tearaway will leave the back unsupported and possibly cause distortion in the lower fill areas. Hoop tight. If the fabric has any texture, canvas, denim, twill, add a layer of water-soluble topping so the shorter satin sections dont sink into the weave. Run the first colour stop slowly to make sure your tension is right before committing to the full stitch out.
