The eagles beak is the first thing that hits you. That olive-gold hooked curve takes up a good chunk of the lower face, and Wilcom digitised it with sand and mustard satin columns that shade the curve so it looks three-dimensional rather than flat. The eye is sharp and ringed with dark lashes. White feathers radiate outward from the crown in loose directional strokes, not solid fills, actual individual feather lines that fan out like a halo.

Six colours total, 6 colour changes. Cream white for the head feathers, silver grey for the shadow tones, olive and sand for the beak, black for the eye and outlines, and a faint off-white accent on the pupil. 15k stitches at 3.49 inches, up to 32k at the biggest 7.46-inch size. For a bird portrait thats well controlled, the sketchy feather style means the stitch density stays manageable at 721 compared to a dense photorealistic bird which would be double that.

I designed this last winter while I was doing a wildlife portrait series for a falconry centre in the countryside. They wanted a bird they could put on their merch without it looking like clip art and this is where I landed. Send me a note if youre after colour adjustments for a specific thread palette and Ill advise on substitutes.

Stitch on navy, forest green, charcoal or khaki canvas or twill. The white feathers and olive beak carry the image against dark backgrounds and the design reads clearly even at the smaller 3.5-inch format. Avoid mid-grey fabrics because the grey shadow tones in the feathers will disappear into the ground. Use a cutaway stabiliser since the feather strokes span the full 7-inch hoop width on the biggest size and need a firm backing to stay flat.

Pop the large version on a jacket back or a canvas field bag. The 4.5-inch format sits well on fleece pullovers for outdoor clubs and dont sleep on it for structured caps either.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Falconry centre and wildlife sanctuary merchandiseStitch the 6.48-inch on a khaki canvas field bag and it looks like a naturalist print, not a novelty graphic.
  • Patriotic american apparel chest piecesPop the 5.44-inch on a navy cotton tee for patriotic merch and the white feathers pop clean against the dark base.
  • Outdoor and hunting club jacket backsEmbroider the large version on a waxed canvas jacket back for a hunting club and the olive beak picks up earth tones.
  • Canvas field bag and backpack panelsUse the 4.43-inch size on a canvas backpack front pocket for an outdoor education programme gift.
  • Birdwatching society tote bagsHoop the small 3.49-inch on a canvas tote for a birdwatching society and add the club name in chain stitch below.
  • Forest green fleece pullover chest logosSew the medium chest version on a forest green fleece pullover for a shooting or field sports association member gift.
  • Mens cap and hat front panelsRun the smallest size on a structured cap front panel using a foam stabiliser topping to keep the feather lines crisp.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
