This rainbow heart I drew up for a baby shower order back in valentines day week, the mom-to-be wanted something that would fit on a tiny onesie chest panel and also scale up for a nursery cushion. Sweet little childlike design, nothing fussy. The seven stripes follow the curve of the heart so the rainbow bends with the shape, valentines day reds through berry on the right edge. The widest size hits 4.26 inches wide and the smallest stays under two inches which is great for newborn sized items.
Stitch count starts at 6174 on the smallest version and goes up to 19752 on the largest 4.26 inch size, density sits at 617 spi at mid density. go a size up on the hoop and use a fusible cutaway stabiliser for any baby clothing, the underlay holds the stripe edges crisp through wash cycles. I always pack a few small sizes in there. Heres why I include the smaller sizes in pack.
The seven thread changes happen in a row near the top of the design so plan your spools before you start the run, you can swap them in sequence without pausing the machine much. Pop wash topping atop terry cloth or waffle weave so stripe borders dont sink into the fabric texture, the satin outlines are slim and pile will swallow them otherwise. Stitch this on soft cotton tees, jersey onesies, or muslin blankets for the best nursery feel. Avoid heavy denims, the design reads childlike and the weight clashes.
