There are alot of ghost designs out there but this one was made specifically for the book people, ya know, the ones who have 'just one more chapter' as a lifestyle. I had a customer order this last march for a tote she was making for her book club and she said the 19 colour thread load was worth every minute. It's 34,980 stitches in a 3.5 by 3.03 inch rectangle, and the density is 511 which is the highest Ive worked with on a single character this size.

Nineteen colour stops sounds like a lot and it genuinely is a longer run at the machine. But each colour does real work here, the ghost body shading alone uses three whites and a light grey to create that soft rounded volume, and the book pages have a bunch of fine detail in the fill that makes the open spread look actually like a book and not just a flat rectangle. The directional underlay angles between the phantom figure and the page area run at different offsets so the two white zones dont merge visually. Digitised in the digitising software with density kept even across zones despite the overall 511 average, some sections are lighter, the book spine and cover sections are heavier.

Cutaway stabiliser is non-negotiable here. Thirty-four thousand stitches will warp any fabric that isnt properly supported. Use a firm sew-in or hooped cutaway and add water-soluble topping if your base fabric has any texture at all. Stitch slow through the fill sections, 70 to 80 percent speed through the denser zones, back up for the outline passes. Skip dark or busy background fabrics, the white ghost sections need a plain background to read properly. On cotton or canvas this reads brilliantly; on a tote bag it sits slightly raised from the fabric surface in a way that looks almost quilted given the volume of stitching.

  • Reading nook throw pillow coverMy sister asked for this size for a library tote she uses every week, the nineteen colours look almost painted on canvas.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
