Five colours sounds simple but this giraffe design took me longer to digitise than most of my twelve-colour files. Getting those irregular rust shapes to look right, not too uniform, fading as they go down the neck, thats the fiddly part. Each one is outlined and filled separately with a directional satin stitch, and the underlay angles shift between patches so you get a bit of shading without adding extra colours. my professional tool handles that kind of multi-element sequencing well.

Nine sizes from from a 3.5 to a 7.5 inches wide, and at the big end youre looking at 39,887 stitches with a density of 110. Not the densest file Ive worked with but the patch count means there are alot of colour transitions packed in tightly. Pair midweight cutaway with anything thats going to get washed regularly, denim jackets, tote bags, tea towels. On stiff canvas tearaway is fine. The bobbin should match your background fabric, not the design, this one has alot of tan and cream sections at the neck base that can show bobbin pull-through on the back if the tension is off a touch.

I had one customer ordered this specifically for a safari nursery theme last year, she stitched it on cream linen and mounted it in a round wooden hoop. Looked really good. Works equally well on navy, olive, or tan fabric. Skip busy patterned backgrounds, the patch markings need a clean contrast to read properly. And dont rush the muzzle section, its the darkest, densest part of the face and slowing down there keeps the satin sharp.

For the ossicones at the top of the head the satin is quite short but it matters a lot for the silhouette, check your hoop tension before you start. Stitch on woven fabric rather than knit for the sharpest patch edges, cotton twill or denim is ideal.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Safari nursery wall hoop displaySafari nursery hoop on cream linen in a round frame, the giraffe head fills the panel beautifully and the rust patches read subtle on a neutral wall.
  • Kids denim jacket back designKids denim jacket back, tan and rust against blue denim is a surprisingly clean combo at the bigger sizes.
  • Wildlife themed tote bag embroideryWildlife tote bag centred vertically, the five-colour palette stays subtle enough for adults to carry without feeling too young.
  • Canvas throw pillow center motifOatmeal linen throw pillow, the warm tones coordinate with natural fabric palettes without needing colour matching.
  • Childs backpack flap embroideryCanvas backpack flap at 4 inches, the patch markings compress at that scale but the long neck silhouette still reads clearly.
  • African safari themed apron designKitchen apron front panel where the warm giraffe tones suit a natural-palette kitchen without looking like a kids print.
  • Linen tea towel embroidered cornerTea towel lower corner accent, a five-colour subtle palette that works for adults and keeps the towel looking considered rather than novelty.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
