A tree trunk rises from the base and splits into bare branches that spread outward and upward, curving at the tips to form the 2 lobes of a heart at the top of the canopy. The branches themselves are fine and detailed, with smaller secondary branches splitting off the main ones and curling back in toward each other. Single colour throughout, which actually suits this design well since the silhouette effect relies on contrast between thread and fabric rather than multi-colour fills. Stitch count runs 10,767 stitches on the small version, reaching 27,436 on the largest hoop.51 inches wide. Density is high at 596 stitches per inch because the branch satin columns are narrow and need that density to stay solid and defined at scale.

Pop a thick backer behind the fabric, the stitch count at the larger sizes is substantial and the hooped fabric will get a fair amount of pull as the narrow branch lines go down. Layer a medium weight cutaway if you're going onto a woven cotton, step up to a heavier grade for jersey or fleece. Theres no colour stop, which means you can just set it going and come back when its done. The branch tips at the outer edges are the finest parts of the design, so make sure your needle is fresh before you start or youll get skipped stitches on the small detail runs.

I had one customer last valentines who ordered this for a linen wedding anniversary gift, wanted it in dark gold thread on ivory linen for a 15-year celebration. She said it looked like something from a proper stationery boutique once it was framed. The bare branch silhouette works for valentines but honestly its not locked to that season. Stitch it in navy on white for a nautical winter feel, charcoal on natural linen for a minimal interior gift, or burgundy on cream for a warm and romantic hoop piece any time of year.

Use the 7.51 inch piece placed centred on a 10-inch hoop for a bold framed wall piece. Stitch the 3.51 inch version on a shirt pocket or small gift pouch. Add initials or a date in the open space between the trunk base and the bottom of the frame if you want to personalise it for a wedding or anniversary.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Framed hoop wall art as a year-round romantic decor pieceThe 7.51 inch size in dark gold on ivory linen centred in a 10-inch wooden hoop makes a genuine gift-quality wall piece.
  • Linen wedding and anniversary gift panelsStitch on natural linen fabric in a frame as a wedding or anniversary gift, add the couple's date in the trunk area.
  • Valentine's Day throw pillow coversCentred on a cream throw pillow cover at 6 to 7 inches in charcoal or dark burgundy thread suits any living room.
  • Shirt chest pocket placement for a subtle romantic detailThe 3.51 inch version sits in a shirt breast pocket with branch tips just clearing the pocket edge nicely.
  • Canvas tote bags with a literary or artistic aestheticDark navy on a natural canvas tote at 5 to 6 inches looks like a botanical print from a gallery shop.
  • Personalised gifts with initials or date added belowLeave clear space below the trunk and add a monogram or wedding date for a personalised anniversary keepsake.
  • Fabric gift tags and personalised gift wrappingStitch the small 3.5 inch version on ivory cotton card stock fabric and wrap as a fabric greeting card with ribbon.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
