This gnome is exactly the Nordic tomte style, the kind you see on those Scandinavian christmas cards where theres no face, just a massive hat, a thick braided beard and stubby lil feet poking out the bottom. The hat is tall and red with white snowflake stitches all over it. The beard is the real showpiece though, three braided columns of grey with red ribbon bows at the tips. Very traditional. Very satisfying to stitch.

The gnome is holding a pair of candy canes, red and white striped, one in each hand. And the round nose is the only facial feature, just this little tan bump peeking out between the hat brim and the beard. 6 colour stops, density is high at 1,055 stitches per square inch, so the fill is very solid and holds up well on both woven and knit fabrics. Stitch count goes from 19,298 at the small piece reaching 47,154 at 7.5 inches wide. Use cutaway stabiliser on the large sizes, dont skimp on the backing or the dense fill will pull the fabric around.

I get messages every christmas season about this one, usually from customers whove seen it on a sweatshirt at a market and come looking for the source. Stitch it on a tea towel or a pillow cover and it looks like it belongs in a Nordic design shop. The braided beard texture stitches up beautifully in person, its one of my favourite designs that always gets comments.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
