This owl is perched upright on a branch, facing forward, and it doesnt look friendly. It looks like its got opinions. The style is a sketchy freehand with four or so lines where most designs would use a flat fill. Eyes are two concentric spiral rings in dark brown with a solid black pupil dot dead centre. No iris gradient, no soft glow effect. Just those intense stare-y circles ringed in loose strokes.

Ear tufts splay wide at the top in a bundle of individual feather lines. The face disc sits as a rough oval of curved running stitches. Belly is the warmest part, off-white with loose horizontal crosshatch strokes giving it a rumpled look. Feet grip the branch in a splayed claw arrangement, each talon separate. Four colours: charcoal, dark brown, warm tan and off-white. Thats it.

Density hits 1,006 stitches per sq inch and that is properly tight for a sketch style. Biggest size is 35k stitches at 7 by 5 inches, 8 sizes total. Because its all running-stitch lines rather than dense fills, it doesnt stiffen natural fabrics. I ran this on kraft linen last autumn for a market stall and it looked like a proper linoprint. One customer ordered a set of three for hessian cushions and sent photos that looked genuinely like block-printed decor. Brilliant on canvas too.

Go for natural-toned fabric, oatmeal linen, raw canvas, aged cotton or warm grey. Skip white backgrounds, the sketch lines need a bit of warmth to read right. Use a medium-weight cutaway stabiliser. Check your hoop tension before you start so the spiral eyes dont distort. If somethings off with the file Ill sort it, just ping me.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Bookish throw pillow for a home libraryStitch the large size on a warm oatmeal cushion for a reading nook, pair with a stack of hardbacks
  • Halloween wall hoop or framed pieceMount the 7-inch in a round hoop with dried eucalyptus tucked around the rim for a Halloween wall piece that works year-round
  • Denim jacket back patchSew the medium onto the back panel of a denim jacket between the shoulder blades for a vintage-naturalist patch look
  • Woodland nursery wall art hoopUse the smaller sizes on natural linen in a nursery woodland theme alongside fox and deer designs from the same range
  • Canvas zipper pouch for stationeryStitch on a canvas zipper pouch front panel for storing pens, sketchbooks or tarot cards
  • Autumn wreath hoop centrepieceCombine with autumn leaf designs in a seasonal hoop wreath for an October front door display

Behind every stitch

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
