So this is the sleeping baby cloud design and its one of those pieces that just melts people. The baby is tiny and curled right up on top of a big rounded fluffy cloud, knees tucked in toward its chest, little fists loosely closed, eyes shut completely. Real peaceful energy, no stress in the image at all.
And the cloud underneath has that puffy layered look with soft satin fill giving it depth, not just a flat white blob. The baby itself uses directional stitching across the back and arms so you get that sense of rounded form rather than a flat colour patch. Seven colours total spread across the cloud shading, skin tones, and the tiny details like the brow and the hair wisps.
I made this one after my sister had her first kid last spring and I wanted something for the nursery wall hoop. It stitched up so nicely on the cream linen I used that shes had customers at her church ask where she got it. The density is high on this one, up to 48,336 stitches on the largest size, so use a good cutaway stabiliser underneath and keep your machine speed alittle lower through the dense cloud sections.
Five sizes from 2.16 inches wide up to 4.62 inches wide. The smaller 2 inch version works sweet on baby bibs and onesie chest panels. The mid sizes sit nicely centered on a burp cloth or blanket corner, and the largest is right for a nursery hoop or wall piece on muslin or cotton canvas.
Stitch it on soft white cotton, cream linen, or light grey jersey for the best result with those pale pastel tones. Skip dark fabrics here, the colour palette is pastel and wont read well against navy or black. Use a tearaway on firm woven cotton blankets and cutaway for any stretch fabric.
