The cat is completely curled up, tail wrapped round and body pulled into that tight resting oval that any cat owner will recognise immediately. Its stitched out almost entirely in solid black, just the outline shape of the animal and very little else. No decorative filler, no added colour, just the silhouette doing all the work on whatever fabric you hoop underneath it. Thats really all it needs.
Whats interesting up close is the face detail built into the fill itself, light whisker lines and a hint of closed eyes rendered as negative space against the dense black stitching. Realise this only really shows up at the larger sizes, but even at 3.5 inches the basic shape reads perfectly from across a room. Stitch it on a white linen throw pillow and youve got something that looks like it belongs in a proper home goods shop. Pop it across a cotton tote then its done in a single colour run without stopping. Dont overthink the fabric, just avoid anything stretchy without backing it first.
The density sits around 948 per square inch at the smallest, up to just over 39,000 total stitches at the full 7.5-inch version. Back it with cutaway on knit or stretch fabrics and a heavy tearaway on canvas or denim to keep those dense directional fills flat and smooth. 5 sizes, single colour thread, no thread changes at all. Last month a customer ordered several to put on cat-themed tote bags as gifts and said the contrast looked great on natural cotton canvas. Skip light-coloured fabric if you want the whisker details to show up, they read best against cream or off-white backgrounds. Reach out if anything in the download doesnt work and I'll fix it straight away.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Cat-themed tote bags and book bagsThe clean oval silhouette centres nicely on canvas or cotton tote bags, striking at the larger 5-6 inch sizes
- Throw pillow covers for cat ownersStitch it onto a throw pillow cover in white linen or cream fabric, the solid black reads beautifully against pale backgrounds
- Denim jacket back panels and sleevesWorks really well on denim jacket sleeves or back yoke panels where the dense black fill suits the heavier fabric weight
- Baby blankets and crib quiltsScaled to 3.5 inches, it fits on baby blanket corners or quilt blocks in a nursery cat theme
- Aprons and kitchen linens for cat loversApron bib panels take the larger sizes well, a cat-themed gift idea that's genuinely useful

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
