Email me when youve stitched this 1 because it makes everyone go aww. tiny field mouse is curled up asleep, head resting on his pink front paws, eyes closed soft, two big round ears with rosy pink inner shells folded sideways. Fluffy ochre fur runs in fine little tufts all over the body, charcoal whiskers fan out from a pink button nose. Long curly tail trails out behind him on the cream ground.
Up close the fur work is gorgeous, each tuft is its own short directional satin run that fans out from the spine, no flat fill anywhere. Pink ears use a soft tatami fill graded from rose at the rim to pale cream in the centre. Eyes are tiny closed-arc satin lines with a hint of dreaming smile underneath. Whiskers are 1-pass running stitches in charcoal so they read fine and not chunky on toddler tee fabric. Belly is a cream sateen panel with subtle shading.
I get messages from mums every week asking for soft nursery designs for kids rooms and this little cartoon mouse has been a quiet best seller since last christmas. One customer ordered the 7-inch version for her newborn nieces moses basket blanket corner, shes sent a thank you photo same day. People have been buying it for nursery cushion covers, toddler swaddle blanket monograms, kawaii baby shower gift bibs, the lot. A regular bought 5 last february for a friends children-themed shower party favour bag tees.
Best on smooth soft fabric so the fine fur tufts read clean. Pop it on cream cotton, oatmeal linen, sage muslin or a soft white organic flannel and the ochre fur sits warm on the cloth. Skip terry pile because the loops chop the whiskers, you lose half the face. Avoid bright pink fabric, the rosy ears get lost. Pale grey jersey works lovely if youre after a moodier bedtime feel.
9 sizes from 3.5 inches up to 7.5 wide. Stitch counts climb from 21.6k to 58k so the bigger versions want a soft cutaway stabiliser, slow speed, and a fine 70/10 needle on baby fabric. mesh wash-away topping helps the fur tufts not sink into flannel. Hoop tight, the directional fur stitching needs a stable base or the mouse looks scruffy. Email any questions to the shop and Ill rebuild any thread chart by next morning.
