Sleeping newborn curled in fetal pose, knees tucked up, both tiny hands resting just below the chin. Eyes closed soft. Mouth a tiny line. Round cheeks, faint hatching across the body to suggest a soft swaddle blanket draped over the legs. Theres a wisp of hair on top of the head. Whole thing reads like a pencil sketch lifted off paper and stitched in line work.

Theres no solid fill anywhere. Its all line work plus subtle hatch shading. Outline runs the perimeter of the body, then short directional hatch lines fall where shadow sits beneath the jaw, along the curve of the back, underneath the swaddle. Small details dont get lost because the linework is balanced. Lashes catch a couple of stitches each, the toes peek out from the blanket fold.

Two colours total which is generous for a sketch piece. One charcoal black for the main outline and a soft grey for the hatch shading. Stitch counts hover at 18k on the small 3.5 inch size, climbing to 43k stitches on the 7.5 inch hoop because the hatch density piles up alot on the bigger size. I been digitising baby pieces for years and a customer wrote me last month asking for the smallest size for a hospital bag tag. So I tested a 3.5-in placement on a soft cotton onesie and the linework held clean.

Stitch on white, cream, soft pink, baby blue or oatmeal fabric. Best on a smooth woven cotton aswell, the linework needs a flat surface to stay crisp. Pop the small hoop on a baby beanie, bib or onesie chest. Use the medium 5 inch on a swaddle corner or burp cloth. Big size goes on cushions and nursery wall hoops. Skip terry cloth and chunky knits, sketch linework reads poor on textured pile.

Density is moderate at 898 spi. But the parallel shading needs underlay so the lines wont sink into the knit fibre. Use a medium cutaway on cotton jersey, tear-away on woven. Run the machine slow on the hatching, fast jumps tend to skip and youll see thread breaks on parallel runs. Comment on the listing if your version of the file pulls short.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
