My mum asked me to make something cheerful for my niece's nursery and this sun is what came out of that. Round yellow face with a soft closed smile, big curly lashes running across the lower part of the eyes the way kawaii characters do, and a small red bow sitting up top just left of centre. The rays stick out as pointed spikes all the way around the edges rather than the blunt stubby type, which gives it a bit more energy than your average sun design.

Run a layer of light tearaway under this one on woven cotton or quilting fabric and itll release cleanly. The density sits at 303 which is on the lighter side, so its not a stiff design when it comes off the hoop, it keeps a nice soft hand on baby items. Four colours total: yellow for the sun body, red for the ribbon bow, black for the lash lines and the smile, and a white highlight on the bow centre. Three colour changes across those 4 stops. At the 2-inch size youll want to keep your machine speed low through the lash section or the fine curves can catch.

Six sizes from 2 inch at 2,636 stitches right up to 8 inch at 19,261 stitches. The 2-inch is the one my mum used on the nursery quilt squares, it tiles nicely across a panel. At 3 inch it works well on onesie chests and toddler shirt fronts. Five and 6 inch fits a kids tee or a small tote bag quite well. Eight inches is a statement piece for a pillow front or a large panel in a baby quilt. Use a tearaway on wovens, switch to a light cutaway stabiliser on knit stretch fabric for onesies.

Works for summer obviously but also good for sunny birthday themes, nursery decor, and anything with a cheerful yellow colour scheme. Stitch it alongside clouds or rainbows if you want to build out a weather theme set. Honestly the lashes and bow make it read as a girl sun but plenty of people stitch it without that meaning anything specific, its just a cute face either way.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
