If you know anyone who loves books and halloween, this is probably the one for em. A kawaii ghost is perched right on top of a stack of 4 or 5 books, lil round dark eyes, that simple wispy tail, floating up off the top book. The book stack runs from floor level and each spine is a different colour, teal, burgundy, sage, mustard, navy, giving it that cosy bookshop autumn feel. Its cartoon but the book spines have enough detail in the satin fill to look like actual books rather than coloured rectangles.

10 colours means a proper thread sequence, white ghost body first, then youre working through each book spine colour and the outline passes. Density is 851 which is solid, I built this in the digitising software and the underlay lays in before the satin columns so the white ghost sections dont pucker over the book edges. 19,007 stitches at 3.51 inches up to 47,810 at the full 7.51 inch size, so even the smaller version has alot of detail in those book spines. Hoop a medium to firm cutaway stabiliser for any woven cotton or canvas ground.

Customers have been ordering this onto sweatshirts and tote bags for bookish halloween gifts, and I get it, theres not alot of embroidery designs that hit that reading-nerd-plus-halloween overlap. A customer ordered 3 of the 5 inch versions last october for teacher halloween gifts, stitched on charcoal grey sweatshirts. Pop it on black or charcoal fleece and use topping so the white satin stitches sit above the pile. Skip low-pile velvet though, those narrow satin columns on the spines wont sit flat on it.

Use a good 40wt polyester for that ghost body fill, it holds the sheen better than cotton. Go with rayon thread on the individual spine colours if you want richer depth on those teal and burgundy sections.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
